January 4th on the Island of Kauai

The wind is heavy and the waves are hitting the shore a hundred meters away. The sun is shining   and it is a beautiful day here in paradise – the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

Helene and I arrived yesterday after a long ride from Cyprus. Actually we spent three days to get here and enjoyed short stays in Munich and L.A.

It is wonderful to be back on the Hawaiian Islands to run the next holistic seminar. Students will arrive in a few days and the seminar will start January 12^th in Hilo – Big Island. We are going to  spend the next couple of days checking the usually locations we normally use for holistic seminars. Something may be different. We read in the paper yesterday that there recently has been an eruption in the volcano area – so you never know what you meet.

That could be the keyword for the current time: “You never know how it is!”  That makes me remember one of the old myths from Hawaii.

It goes like this: “When Captain Cook landed on the shore of Hawaii for the first time he sent a  sailor to the beach in a boat. The sailor stepped out of the boat when it hit the beach found a native and asked; ”Where do you live”, the native answered back “Hawaii”. The sailor returned to the  ship and told Captain Cook that the name of the island was Hawaii.

The ship continued to the next island and the sailor went to that island and got the same answer the name of this island was also Hawaii. When natives from all the islands have given the same answer Captain Cook named them The Hawaiian Islands.

However he missed the point. The true meaning of the word Hawaii is; “I live in my self”.

I guess that could be the lesson for all of us these days. Looking into the mass media each day we can easily be scared of what will happen in the future. Economic downturn, War in Middleeast more earthquakes, violence in our societies – the list is infinite.

However it also seems to me that we are moving into a new era and there will be new rules. Systems which have been a rock for us during years will not provide security any more. It seems as if we probably must find safety within ourselves in the future. It seems as if we are moving into the time of the spirit and it will be urgent for each of us to open that channel and start talking to that inner being inside and find the peace and safety within.

It seems to be the time for all of us to realize that the true meaning of “Hawaii” count for us too.
