How is India? PDF Print E-mail
Honestly I don´t know. Helene and I paid a visit to India recently and we still have so many internal pictures in our heads from there. It isn’t really a country it is more like a continent – as we where told during one of our meetings.

We visited India on our way from Healing seminar on Hawaii and back to Europe. Our intention was to teach a 2-day seminar in New Delhi – however this turned out to be a 2 ½ hours introduction of Makani Academy.

We have had an associate named Umashankar Mukherjee living I Kolkata to take care of preparations for our visit. And I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his huge efforts to arrange our visit.

The intention behind the visit was to pave the road for us to teach in India in the future. We didn’t
really knew more about this huge country than most Western Europeans. We have heard about the yoga tradition, the Asrams, modern call centres, the rapidly growth in economy, terrorism, and people living in the streets and a lot of other stories.

We arrived January 25th late in the evening and were accommodated in India International Centre – a kind of hotel for members only. We were lucky that a member had invited us to stay as temporary members. It is situated in an embassy area in the middle of New Delhi. It is a very rich area with a lot of guarding around the houses. We had a public park next door and enjoyed to walk there every morning. We were not alone – actually we met a lot of joggers, people performing yoga and other kind of exercises all the day. We even met a group some mornings performing “Laughter Therapy” We were surprised of how busy people were in their attempt to maintain their health. And something else - Like in the West – smoking was not allowed in a lot of public areas.

The dark sides are the fact that some people actually live in the streets. There is a huge span between rich and poor – and the poor people are very poor. Sometimes workers in the West blame governments because the West lose jobs to India where workers are paid less for the same job!

This is right. Call centres and that kind of jobs has almost become a whole industry. However I think that the rich world can give no better help to the third world than to export jobs. To have something to do and earn money seems to be what they are really looking for out there.

We spent the week by meeting people with whom we could have possible corporation in the future and made some very useful connections. We know for sure that we will teach in the future in this fantastic country created by a very ancient tradition. And we are looking very much forward to that.
