All kinds of weather within hours – 22nd May 09

Living on the Faroe Islands also means that you get used to changing weather. The ocean has a big impact on life up here. We have sun, small clouds, heavy clouds, fog, wind, rain and sometime the whole thing during just a few hours. People become experts in buying all weather clothing. This has actually developed a unique Faroe Islands design for especially ladies clothing. Very beautiful.

Since arrival I have been seeing clients for sessions and have had two talks at the topic: “Creating the life you want” – my preferred topic. One evening in Torshavn and one in Klaksvik – the second largest city. What I found very special about the talks were the rooms where it took place. In both occasions we had a really original room in an old building totally made of tree. That tree must have been sailed from somewhere to the islands for a long time ago. There are no trees at the Faroe Islands. Those rooms were so simple and had a lot of cosy atmosphere – So different from the usual 5-star conference rooms I often use. It was beautiful to meet people here and present my ideas of how we can expand ourselves and our possibilities. And both rooms were close to full – even in Klaksvik with just 5000 inhabitants.

Driving around on the islands is also very special. Most of the islands are connected by bridges or tunnels and the landscape with grass covered mountains and fjords are breathtaking like Norway Iceland or New Zeeland. And at the same time it is a rich country. The houses are modern and maintained very well. The community has the usual Scandinavian welfare system taking good care of people who suddenly get unemployed for a while. The infrastructure seems to work very well and cars are in general new and modern. And I find high-speed internet everywhere.

There has been a huge investigation for oil in the sea and so far they have found nothing (at least to my knowledge) And if they do – it will probably be on a time – where the world has changed the attention towards more green energy.

Fish still play an important role for the economy. Going out for fishing has been the job for thousands of people in centuries and still is. The fishing boats have grown bigger and become almost factories – trawlers and have a big impact on nature up here. Whaling is another old tradition however in recent years they have found so much pollution in the flesh of the whales that the recommendation is: Be careful – this is very close to be unacceptable as human food.

So dear reader – have you got a week available – take a trip up here and explore the Faroe Islands.

There is “The ceiling is far above you” and you will find room for long walks with connection to incredible nature. It may be an experience for life.
