A Vision for The World, November 15th,
2007, Cyprus, Jack
International
Alert, a London-based conflict analyze group has identified 46 countries – home
to 2,7 billion people – where – according to the group - the effect of climate
change would create a high risk of violent conflicts.
The group has
also identified another 56 countries with a risk of political instability for
the same reason. The secretary of the group Dan Smith has said to Reuters, that
we may expect some very serious conflicts clearly linked to climate change on
the international scene by 2020.
Nobody
knows if this is going to happen, but similar kind of recent analyzes have come
to the same conclusions during the last years. So we – the six billions human beings
are confronted with a serious problem.
When I work
with coaching and someone present a problem we start to focus on what could be a
solution to the problem. Actually we
start to make a goal – a picture of how we want it to be – and then we work on
the issues we need to adjust to achieve the goal.
So how
would it be to make such a vision on this simple important question: How would
we like it to be on this planet! Looking into the problems can definitely motivate
us to start a healing process for the planet and still the natural next step is
to discuss: How would we like it to be!
Some people
would say that:” people are thinking on themselves only.” And interesting
enough a recent international survey in a lot of countries showed that about
60% of people in those countries were willing to pay from their salary to make
progress in really cleaning up the environment.
Some people
would say that this should be discussed in United Nations – and it is already
discussed there. UN is the right place but UN needs a much broader approach and
more support from the common man.
Some people
will say that we can never agree to a common vision – Well! We have not done it
so far – but I think that time could be right for this to start up.
What we
need is a campaign for a vision for the world. And we need well known and well
respected world leaders to head this. We need less ego´s in political decisions
and more looking into our hearts. And we need this before the climate based
wars and conflicts really start up.
