A new deal – A new green deal – Cyprus October
31st.
We are in
the middle of the crises predicted by the Mayan Calendar so long time ago. The property
market
turns out to be a bubble. A lot of people can not pay their debt and leave
their homes. The financial system is collapsing. We are probably moving into a world
wide recession with declining economy. There have been more than fifty
bankrupts among airlines this year and more to come. Some carmakers are close
to bankruptcy and the expectations for the future among consumers are
declining. The list is long and may grow even longer.
This is one
way to look at what is going on. There are other ways as well.
According
to the spiritual Mayan Calendar we are still in the so called Fifth Night of
the Galactic Period. This special period has always been called “destruction”
and last time we had that period was from 1929-1949 and everybody who has
studied history can remember what happened at that time. Now this special
energy is ruling again for us to realize that it could be time to reconsider
our life and way of living. It could be time for the most difficult of all
things: “To change some of our habits”. The message from the ruling energy can
always be discussed, but it could be something like “wake up and take responsibility
for the planet – you are late”.
Man is a
creative being and a lot of creativity is needed now. Some people may want to keep
a low profile and just wait for “good old times to come back” Well! They may
need to wait for a long time.
What we can
do is to learn the lesson and look around for new possibilities. Look for the
next step.
Look for a
solution to the problems and start to create a new economy by working on that.
According
to UN Secretary Ban Ki-mon - this week the UN Environment Programme has launched
a plan for reviving the global economy while dealing simultaneously with the
defining challenge of our era – climate change. Economists of the United
Nations call for a new green deal – a deliberate echo of the energising vision
of Unites States President Franklin Roosevelt during the great Depression of
the 1930ès.
We have
experienced great economic transformations throughout history: The industrial
revolution, the technology revolution and the era of globalization. We are now
in the threshold of another – the age of green economics. It has started
already. In just a few short years China has become a world leader in
wind and solar power. More and more people find their work in renewable energy.
Brazils
bio-fuels sector has been creating nearly a million jobs a year. Some economists
mean that India, Nigeria and Venezuela among many others, could
do the same.
Germanys environmental technology is expected
to employ more people than German carmakers in a not so far future. Mexico
already employs 1,5 million people to plant and manage their forests.
So instead
of weeping of what is going down these days – it could be better to grab the
opportunity to be among those in the first wave for the new green economy.
